    Description

    Indian Parcel Car Sales Booklet
This booklet is a NEW reproduction of an extremely rare Indian Parcel Car Sales Booklet.
The Surplus N Salvage watermarks displayed in the images of this listing are NOT displayed within the printed booklets. However, each booklet does have a small notation on the back cover, stating that it is a reproduction.
These reproductions are the same size as the original. There are 20 pages inside, not counting the cover pages. Each page measure approx 5.25” high and approx 7.75” wide.
In order to maintain the authentic appearance of the original book, the inside pages are printed on thick index stock, making the pages with images suitable for framing.
In addition to all of the images of Indian Parcel Cars in use by various types of businesses, there are also two pages displaying the Yearly Cost of operating a single horse delivery wagon, vs the yearly cost of operating the Indian Parcel Car. In that comparison, it listed the horse delivery wagon traveling 18 miles per day at a cost of 18 cents per mile, compared to the Indian Parcel Car traveling 50 miles per day at a cost of 6 cents per mile.
Since there is no date printed in this Parcel Car Sales Literature, we are not exactly sure what year it was originally printed, however there are several clues contained within the following text that leads us to believe it may have been printed around 1914 to 1916
The first clue relating to the date is the following statement contained in this brochure. “Five years ago, we introduced
    two-speed motocycles
and suspension spring forks, and two years later the
    suspension spring frame
, which placed a demand upon us for a 35,000 motocycle output per year, and which has now reached an output of 60,000 per annum."
According to other antique Indian Motorcycle Literature, in 1909 the Indian Cradle Spring Fork was designed and in 1913, the Cradle Spring Frame was introduced.
Also, in the 1914 Indian Sales Literature, it claims the Indian two speed motocycles have been in use for 5 years.
A note in the 1916 Indian Motorcycle Sales Brochure states: “The Indian Parcel Car can be attached to any Indian Motocycle of 1914. 1915 or 1916 models.
The 1916 Indian Sales Brochure also states:”SPECIAL literature showing the commercial applicability of the Indian parcel Car will be gladly sent on request.”, which leads us to believe the Indian parcel Car literature was not as widely distributed as much of their other sales literature was.
So, if any Indian Dealerships or other experts have additional information relating to the year of this publication, we would appreciate your input.
