Indian Company Ground-Breaking
A large group of local and national figures gathered at the
Cabot, Cabot and Forbes Massachusetts Industrial Park in
Chicopee, Mass., on June 12 to witness the ground-breaking for
the new Indian Company building.
Charles P. “Skinny” Pierce, a descendent of the Choctaw
Indians and an Indian motorcycle dealer from San Antonio,
Texas, guided the plough, drawn by two Indian motorcycles,
which broke the ground.
The Indian building will be built by the Ernest F. Carlson,
Inc. firm of Springfield. The new plant will contain general
offices, service and experimental shops, warehouse for parts,
shipping and receiving rooms, showroom and various facilities
for employees. The single-story structure will cover more than
20,000 square feet, and will be of a modified modern style of
architecture, utilizing brick, aluminum and steel.
All set to begin ground-breaking operations on Indian’s new
building are: Henry Wing III leading the parade on a 1903
Indian; Jimmy Hill, service manager, on a Matchless 650; and
Herb Mogul, Jr., of Pioneer Valley Sales, on an Indian Chief.
At the plow is Charles P. “Skinny” Pierce, veteran Indian
dealer and descendant of the Choctaw Indians.
