Ladies and Gentlemen, Gateway Classic Cars of Kansas City is Honored to present a rare offering, and getting rarer by the second, a 1968 Cordova Maroon, four-speed, Chevrolet Corvette Convertible, L71, 435 HP, 427 cubic inches of awesomess!
In 1968 the new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, also known as the Corvette C3, significantly revised from the linear with its knife-edge beltline, on the new '68 The front sloped steeply with pop-up headlights, and fenders were sharply crowned, creating the impression that the car was lower. The new model rode on the same wheelbase, but was seven inches longer than the previous model. Sales jumped to 28,566 vehicles and two thirds (18,630) were now convertibles, 8,735 with an optional hardtop (2). Base price was ,320 for the convertible and ,663 for the coupe. The base powertrain was still the 300 bhp, 327 cubic inch small-block Chevy V-8 with a 3-speed manual gearbox, but 9,440 buyers stepped up for the 350 bhp L79 engine. There were also four 427 cubic-inch big-block engines to choose from, offering 390 bhp (L36), 400 bhp (L68), and 435 bhp (L71) - the latter with triple carburetors and the option of alloy heads. A total of 7,717 buyers chose the L36 motor, 1,932 the L68 and 2,898 the L71 - 624 adding alloy heads.
Our stunning Cordova Maroon exterior with matching hard top, black interior, and black convertible top is a rare sight indeed! Out of 28,566 Corvettes produced this year, only 1,155 (4.04%) were painted Cordova Maroon. Out of the ten color options offered, this was the least produced. Combine this the rare powertrain option of L71, 427 cubic inch, 435 horsepower engine and a four-speed transmission, and its slim pickings to find a comparable example of this 'King of the Street' Corvette. As far as options on our Corvette? There is a steering wheel, four-speed shifter, manual transmission, a gas pedal (the loud pedal) and power brakes. That is really all you need. Oh, there is a radio, but you'll never hear it once you get out of second gear. There's really not much more you can say about this terrific machine. If you are still reading, you know what we have here. [ omitted ]. Our number is 877-399-7026. You can reach us Monday thru Saturday, 9 a.m. thru 5 p.m. cst. Gateway Classic Cars of Kansas City, 1202 South lone Elm Road, Olathe, KS 66061..
