Description
This is an early turn of the century metal “Gettysburg” souvenir box that was made in Japan and imported by A. C. Bosselman & Co., an importer doing business in New York City from 1905 until 1914.This American-based company published postcards and sold a variety of souvenir items in the early 1900s.
Highlighting historic Civil War landmarks in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, this miniature brass trinket box measures approximately 3 ¼” in length by 1 ¾” in height and 2 5/8” in width.
It features raised relief depictions of the Jennie Wade House on the top of the lid and on the sides the High Water Mark, the Pennsylvania State Monument, General Lee’s Headquarters and Devils Den.
Embossed markings are located on the base that read, “Made in Japan – A.C. Bosselman & Co., New York”.
Rare export hallmarks are also embossed on the base along with the number “18004”.
Despite minor wear and tarnish to the finish this is a fine piece of metalware that is in very good condition.
It has a beautiful patina and the lid’s hinge is in good working order.
This is not only a handsome brass box but also an antique Gettysburg and Civil War souvenir piece.
