In Elizabethan England, it was a very popular skull symbol.
This is a link to the tradition of the memento mori - an object designed to remind us that life is brief and that we should seize the moment while we are here.
Since the beginning of time, the skull has been used as a symbol of mortality, victory, the ultimate Memento Mori.
The skull represented the contemplation of eternity.
Its a symbol of men, in particular, have always loved to paint, carve, cast, and wear.
This is one beautiful interesting Memento Mori Skull Snuff Pill Box
Solid Silver gilded
One side has a skulls with Snake and the Hippocratic Oath engraved on the other side has two Skeletons and Memento Mori Engraved. There is also a skull on the hanger.
