Description
This is a great carved wood Ionic column from an old house that was torn down in Cincinnati. The house was built in the 1860s and I estimate this to be from the era. Pegged construction with at least 3 layers of old paint that I could count. It has a base and a top, both separated but certainly reattachable.
I believe this to have been part of the newel post of the stairwell. Alternatively it could have been another architectural element, but cannot be sure.
Column top with some loss to the front face on one side of top scroll.
It is overall a neat piece and I hope it can be reused. I am pricing to sell!
36" length of column proper. Column tapers from 4.5 to 2.5 inches at top. Bottom is molded 5.5 x 3.25 " base. Top is about 5.5" wide scroll.
