Arts and Crafts. Adirondack Carved Wood Book Cradle. Ausable Chasm, NY. c.1910

Description

This Arts and Crafts era book cradle was carved in the Adirondack region of New York State. The carving is wonderfully intricate. The sides fold up to accommodate books. Look carefully and you will see that "Ausable Chasm, N. Y." has been skillfully carved into the surface. I am guessing this piece falls into the the first decade of the 20th century, but it could be earlier. There is an old repaired crack on one of the uprights (photographed); it looks so old, that I suppose it could have been done  by the maker.
Approximate measurements: 12" long x 5" wide.
