ONE PHOTO SHOWS ONE SIDE OF THE POST WET WITH MINERAL SPIRITS TO GIVE YOU AN IDEA WHAT IT WOULD LOOK LIKE WITH A VARNISH ON THE WALNUT, OF COURSE AS YOU BUILD UP COATS OF VARNISH IT WOULD HAVE A GORGEOUS SHEEN/GLOSS!!

TONS OF CHARACTER, PATINA & BEAUTY MARKS ON THIS POST INCLUDING, black stain from hand forged nails, cracks, nail holes to be filled, worn areas etc all consistent with being nearly 150 years old!!
Restoration...I am a master craftsman & have been restoring antiques for over 45 years. I fell in love with this piece, love at first sight even though it was in need of some fine restoration. It was partially stripped of its many layers of paint, but still had tons of paint in every carved detail & pore of walnut. There were some chunks of walnut missing that I inlaid with walnut to restore,some trim that was damaged & missing, trim at base I custom made. I knew this was a rare piece with exquisite carving & detail by the original craftsman. The top/crown of the post is especially outstanding, the carving detail & execution is spectacular...all done by hand, no power tools or computer aided carving!! I have sanded the entire post it just needs a final detail sanding right before you apply your finish!
THIS IMPRESSIVE HISTORIC AMERICAN POST WILL BE FANTASTIC WHEREVER YOU PLACE IT!!
