Description
Rare inscribed signature cut of race car driver Johnny Hannon (1908-1935) trimmed from an autograph album page 5 X 3 on which he wrote, “I am very glad you have so great interest in automobile racing, Harry Keep it up, Johnny Hannon.” Before his racing career Hannon was a professional boxer winning 13 of 14 bouts. Hannon was a AAA Eastern Circuit dirt track champion before his tragic death in 1935, when he lost control of his car during his first lap at racing speed while testing a car in practice to qualify for the Indianapolis 500. After a series of deaths in the 1935 Indy race, speedway officials began what is now known as the Rookie Orientation Program for first-year Indianapolis 500 drivers. Very good condition
