West is the eighth studio album by Lucinda Williams, her ninth album overall. It was released on February 13, 2007 on Lost Highway Records. West is Williams first studio album since 2003's World Without Tears. Williams stated that " The songs deal with a chapter in my life and they definitely tell a story. It's probably been the most prolific time in my life as a writer. I'd been through so many changes, my mother's death and a very tumultuous relationship that ended badly, so obviously there's a lot of pain and struggling that went on for me, but it ends with a look towards the future. " The album debuted at number 14 on the Billboard 200 (the highest chart position of Williams career), selling about 57,000 copies in it's first week. According to Nielsen SoundScan the album sold 250,000 copies in the United States from it's initial release in February 2007 to October 2008. West was listed at #18 on Rolling Stone's list of the Top 50 Albums of 2007. "Are You Alright?" was #34 on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Best Songs of 2007.
