Invar tape is placed in the protected groove on the side of the Nedo levelling rod. A soft spring is inserted to put just enough pressure to tap into the Invar’s inherently low coefficient of thermal expansion. That way, you can avoid any systematic error from intense amounts of distortion during temperature fluctuations.
