Valentine's Day has always been a special day for gifts, many being flower arrangements.  A Valentine Heart came out for 1996 in two varieties.  One was a red heart on a red stem, the other a pink heart on a red stem.  Since the idea was for these to be used in displays, no feet were added.  In fact, no Hearts have ever had feet because they would just get in the way when assembling basket arrangements.  The following year, "hot" colors were added - a Hot Red and a Hot Pink.
In 2000 a special edition Heart was issued as an EBay promotion: 4 crystal hearts on red, blue, green, and yellow stems.  This special edition was limited to 5000 and so is very hard to find. A glow in the dark heart was issued to employees that year as well.
In 2004, hearts were added to the stems as well on all four color versions. In 2005 they began to play with the colors and came out with all purple as well as a white stem variety.  The variations expanded with the addition of 12 more sayings on the hearts. The 2005 sayings were printed in Italic (The 2008 All Purple hearts were printed in white block letters while
the Hot Pink Hearts and the Dark Red Hearts were printed in white or black block letters

Colors for 2006 include: All over dark red; dark red with white stem; all over purple; purple with white stem; all over hot pink; and hot pink with white stem.  The sayings now include: Be Mine; Best Friends; Dream; Happy Valentines Day; I Choose U; I (heart) U; Prince; Princess; Smile; Sugar Sugar; Sweet; UR Special; and XOXO.  All variations have hearts on the stems.
In 2008, Light Pink Crystal and Dark Red Crystal were added to the color scheme. The lettering on the Light Pink hearts was either Black or Red and the lettering on the Dark Red Crystal Hearts was either Black or White.
In 2009, The Dark Red Crystal Hearts were limited to three sayings (Happy Valentine's Day, Be Mine, and I ♥ U)  and the"neck" was shortened so that the tip of the heart came down below the top of the stem. A dark Pink Heart on a dark Pink stem replaced the Light Pink Heart with the same three sayings and again the "short neck". A slightly different shade of Dark Pink was also issued with the same three sayings but with the longer neck of the previous hearts.
In 2012 a lighter crystal purple heart was issued with "Happy Valentines's Day" with lettering either White or Black. These hearts also had the "short neck" design. A Red Crystal Heart on a White heart stem was also issued in 2012 with White Letters and just the saying "Happy Valentine's Day".
In late 2015 (in time for 2016 Valentine's Day), an Emoji series was issued with 5 Emoji faces: Love, Happy, LOLing, Silly, and Kissing.  Oddly enough, the Love and the Kissing Emojis were issued with the Valentine Day boxes along with  renewed Love Monkey, Love Bear, large lettered XOXO Red Crystal Heart, a large script lettered "Be Mine" Dark Pink Crystal Heart, and a Ruby Red Crystal "Happy ♥ Day" Heart with White Hearts Stem. The initial card art was unchanged for 2 years.
Although the Heart was not changed, the card art changed in 2018 = Card "B"
