Description
NEW, LOWER PRICE!!This 100 year-old antique doll is VERY unique. It was made by the
New Berwick Doll Company
. They called it the
"Famlee"
doll - one body with five interchangeable heads! Based on the age of its original owner it is estimated to be from the early 1920's.
The doll and the heads are made of a material called "composition". It is a dense material made up of wood, resin, etc., but is not brittle like a ceramic.
The body of the doll has a functioning noise-maker in it to simulate a crying baby when it is tilted forward. The arms and legs are sewn separately to the body (picture).
The five separate heads are:
> a girl with red hair and eyes that open and close
> an Indian girl with black braided hair
> a girl with brunette hair
> a clown with black painted-on hair
> a boy with reddish-brown painted-on hair
The paint on the faces of the doll heads is in very good condition except for the Indian girl head. (see picture)
The heads are attached to the body of the doll via a screwing movement. The doll heads have a female threaded brass fixture while the body has a male brass fixture (pictures). It takes about a quarter-turn to properly attach a head to the body.
The doll and heads come in a red-painted and latched wooden wardrobe box that is 7.5 X 8 X 15" in size.
It also comes with numerous sets of clothes, a bonnet and a pair of shoes. (See pictures).
