    Description

    The Crossmon Hotel
    Alexandria Bay, New York
    Chas. W. Crossmon, Proprietor
This very unique item comes from The Crossmon hotel/resort that was located in Alexandria Bay, New York.  Charles W. Crossmon was the Proprietor at the time.  I believe it dates to 1895-1900.
This item is made from a woven paper material and measures 14" x 14".  The center includes a printed illustration of the hotel with a number of ships and small boats in the foreground.  Around the illustration it reads:
    The Crossmon
    Alexandria Bay, N.Y.
    Thousand Islands
    Chas. W. Crossmon, Proprietor
This item appears to have been folded for a very long time, and has been stored in a protective sleeve since I purchased it years ago.  There is some staining and discoloration.  There is also a damaged area along the top edge that I've provided a close-up photo of.  I believe this item could be ironed if you'd like to frame and display it.
I'm not sure what this item was intended for.  I don't believe it would have been used as a napkin.  It may have been a disposable towel provided to guests who spent time on the water.
