The flesh is 1–3 mm thick and has leathery texture. Older specimens, such as the one pictured, can have zones with green algae growing on them, thus appearing green. Inoculation Instructions
Make sure your hands are clean, and you are wearing clean, freshly laundered clothes.
If you do not have a flow-hood, turn off the air conditioner and any fans in the area. You want the wind to be as still as possible.
    Put on your face-mask
Put on latex gloves and wipe them with rubbing alcohol.
Clean everything thoroughly with a disinfectant such as a 10% bleach mix, Lysol, or rubbing
    alcohol
. Wipe down the work surface, container, and syringe.
If you are not under a flow-hood, spray an air sanitizing spray like Oust, Lysol, or Nutra-air over the work area. Leave your work area for a few minutes to let the disinfectant settle.
Carefully open the packaging that your liquid culture syringe came in and shake it vigorously.
Remove the tip cap on the end of
the syringe and attach the needle. Keep the needle cover on for now.
Remove the cover from the needle and flame sterilize it with a lighter or alcohol lamp. After it is glowing red, remove it from the flame, wait 10 seconds for it to cool. While it cools, wipe the injection point on your substrate with alcohol using your other hand.
Insert the syringe through the injection point of the substrate. Inject 1 ml of your 10 ml syringe. Larger substrates will require more solution.
It is best to wipe the needle tip with alcohol or flame sterilize it between each injection.
If there is any solution left over, place the needle cap back on the syringe, place back in bag and store in the fridge for future use.
