Original hand drawn ink drawing signed by Belgian artist Louis Greuze. 16 cm (6 3/8") x 12.5 cm (5") mounted on larger cardboard.
Louis Greuze (1863-1950).
Louis Greuze was a Belgian painter, engraver and lithographer. From 1876 he attended the courses of Hennebicq, Bourlard and Danse at the Academy of Fine Arts in Mons. In 1886 he received the second Prix de Rome for engraving.
He followed A.Danse as a teacher of engraving at the Academy of Fine Arts in Mons.
From 1897 - 1933 he trained many students, including Binchois Louis Buisseret and René Mallet.
His works are characterized by the firmness and great precision of the line, a conciseness of drawing that always captures the model very accurately, a delicacy of execution and an exactness of character of the utmost rigor.
Greuze was director of the Academy of Mons from 1927 to 1928, curator of the Museum of the Centenary and the museums of Attacat and the Vieux logis in Mons.
